"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything"

- Plato

Like most people music is, always has been, a huge part of my life.  I’ve been singing almost since I could talk, my parents made me take music lessons when I was younger, I used to dance.  I’m always listening to music, I’m not kidding. This blog is born out of me realizing how deeply interwoven music and my life are.  I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this, I’m nothing without music.

When life is great, when it isn’t, when it’s dull, there are songs to accompany me.  In this vein, to me, life is kind of one really long, inconsistent-in-genre playlist, one confusing mixtape. So far there have been phases of heartbreak songs, motivational tunes, mad-at-the-world songs, “hey the world’s not so bad” songs, and of course, love songs.  Every song on my mixtape has a story about me: my struggles, my dreams, my confidence, insecurity, everything that does and doesn’t matter to me is archived by the songs I listen to. It’s kind of mind-blowing to realize that this is probably the case for lots of people.

My mixtape is a representation of my life, so is yours, and hers, and his, and theirs. This blog is a place to celebrate moments in my life, hopefully, one day in others’ too, through music goggles. Music is more than just a composition of notes, and instruments, and words. Songs are stories, in themselves, and in the context they are listened in.  Music, in my opinion, is a universal language, for feeling, for being. It’s one of the few things in the world that can speak to every person and every situation. Music is so special, so are people. I feel like stories are the binding entity between these two. I’m working hard to make this presence a place to honestly, authentically, embody this special triduum.
